●Objective of the Newsletter Editorial Group

There are some 140 volunteers registered at the Yatsu-higata Nature Observation Center and this Newsletter is the only media that delivers all the information that need to be shared among the members, serving to activate and lubricate their activities.

●Works of the Newsletter Editorial Group

The Newsletter is published 4 times each year on the 1st day of January, April, July and October. It is composed of (1) Cover Page (2) Notices from the Observation Center (3) Calender of each Volunteer Group's activity (4) Report of Volunteer Activities (5) Introduction of Volunteer Groups (6) Personal Introductions (7) Special Topics. Number of pages are usually around 8-12 (A4 size/Full color). It's issued each 3 months therefore the contents are baiscally concentrated on reports of the past 3 month's activities and coming 3 month's activities schedules. The important point is to deliver the most recent information.

Editorial Meeting of the next Newsletter

50 days before issuance

Once the theme and author for each article is determined, we distribute among the members, the request of writing articles to the authors.

Checking the status of manuscript collection

30 days before issuance

It is quite rare that all manuscripts are received on the deadline date. Therefore follow up on undelivered manuscripts are necessary.

Editing works of the pages

25 days before issuance

A couple of members handy with the computer create a rough layout, incorporate photos and illustrations. Sometimes the layout has to be launched even if some articles are not received yet. Once the rough layout is complete, the entire team checks the draft, refining the layout, editing the text, and correcting typos and errors. Sometimes, intermediate results are shared among the members by e-mail during the process so that the final draft can be completed as early as possible.

14 days before issuance

The final draft is shown to the Observation Center for comments.

3 days before issuance

Final proofreading completed.

Pringting and Issuace

Issuance day

The high speed printer of the Observation Center is used.
Members of the Newsletter Group folds and places the Newsletter in envelopes with names and addresses already printed.

● Compilation

The first issue was published in September 1995, and the July 1, 2023 issue marked the 111th issue. Issues 1-25, 26-50, 51-75 and 76-100 have been bound into separate volumes for storage. Center staff keep these bound volumes available for volunteers to view at any time.
